The result
A 10.1 kWp solar and battery system designed to reduce grid reliance and future-proof a four-bedroom family home in Woking.
The system combines 25 AIKO Neostar solar panels with a Fox ESS hybrid inverter and 11.52 kWh battery, alongside a Zappi EV charger for the customer’s new electric car. It is predicted to generate 7,572 kWh of electricity a year, with approximately 71% of the solar generation expected to be used within the home.
Phase Energy estimated a year-one financial benefit of approximately £1,672.

The customer’s objective
The homeowner approached Phase Energy after solar installations had already been completed for two close family members.
They wanted to reduce their household electricity bills, become less reliant on grid electricity and future-proof the property. With a new electric car also forming part of the household’s plans, EV charging was incorporated into the overall project.
The Phase Energy solution
Phase Energy designed a solar, battery and EV charging system comprising 25 AIKO Neostar 460W panels, a Fox ESS KH 10 kW hybrid inverter and a Fox ESS EP12 11.52 kWh battery.
A Zappi EV charger was also installed to provide convenient home charging for the customer’s electric vehicle.
Together, the system allows electricity generated on the roof to be used directly within the home, stored for use later or used to help charge the vehicle.
Why the system was designed this way
The solar array was positioned across the available south-facing roof areas to make productive use of the property’s strongest solar aspects.
The number of panels was also influenced by the available inverter string inputs, while the 11.52 kWh battery capacity was selected in relation to the household’s electricity consumption.
The result is a system designed around both the home’s current energy requirements and its future use as electric vehicle ownership increases household electricity demand.
Installation
The installation was completed over two days.
There were no significant roof, access or electrical complications recorded for this project, allowing the solar array, battery system and EV charger to be installed as planned.

The combination of solar generation and battery storage is intended to increase the amount of electricity generated at the property that can be used within the home, rather than being immediately exported to the grid.
All financial and performance figures are proposal-stage estimates rather than guarantees. Actual performance will depend on weather, household consumption, EV charging patterns, tariffs and future energy prices.
Solar generation that can also support EV charging
The addition of a Zappi charger is particularly relevant to this project because the customer’s move to an electric vehicle will increase household electricity demand.
By combining solar PV, battery storage and EV charging within the same installation, the home has greater flexibility over when and how electricity is used, including the opportunity to direct locally generated solar electricity towards vehicle charging when conditions allow.
