Solar & Battery Systems
How Solar and Battery Storage work together

1
Generating Solar Energy
During daylight hours, your solar panels generate electricity from sunlight. Your home automatically uses this electricity first, reducing the amount of energy you need to buy from the grid.

2
Storing Excess Solar Energy
When your solar panels generate more electricity than your home needs, the excess energy is used to charge your battery, allowing you to store it for use later rather than exporting it straight to the grid.

3
Using Your Stored Energy
When your solar panels are no longer generating enough electricity to power your home, your battery automatically supplies the stored energy. Once battery is depleted, your home simply draws any additional electricity needed from the grid.

4
Benefit From Cheaper Electricity
With a suitable electricity tariff, your battery can also be programmed to charge from the grid during cheaper off-peak hours, typically overnight. This stored energy can then power your home during more expensive periods, helping you save even more on your electricity bills.

Do you really need a Solar Battery?
Installing solar panels is a great way to reduce your electricity bills, but is solar battery storage always worthwhile?
A solar battery allows you to store surplus electricity generated during the day and use it later, helping you maximise your solar energy usage and reduce your reliance on the grid.
However, not every home needs battery storage. If you use most of your electricity during daylight hours or benefit from attractive Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) payments, a battery may not always offer the best financial return.
At Phase Energy, we assess your electricity consumption, solar generation and export potential to determine whether battery storage is right for you. We can even design your solar installation to accommodate a battery in the future, allowing us to monitor your actual energy usage before recommending the ideal battery size.
Our goal is to recommend the most cost-effective solar solution for your home, whether that’s solar panels alone or with battery storage.

Solar & battery storage systems designed around your home

Every home is different, which is why we design our solar panel and battery storage systems around your property, electricity consumption and energy requirements.
At Phase Energy, we assess your roof space, orientation, shading and household energy usage to design a solar PV system that maximises electricity generation and long-term savings.
From selecting high-performance solar panels to recommending the right battery storage capacity, every system is carefully designed to help you generate, store and use more of your own electricity.
Our goal is simple: to provide a tailored solar and battery storage solution that reduces your electricity bills, maximises energy efficiency and delivers lasting value for your home.
The technology behind your system
At Phase Energy, we install high-quality solar panels and battery storage systems from leading manufacturers, including AIKO, Fox ESS, Sigenergy and Tesla, providing reliable, efficient and long-lasting renewable energy solutions for your home.
Every property has different energy requirements, which is why we carefully select the right solar PV panels, hybrid inverters and home battery storage systems based on your electricity consumption, available space and future energy needs.
Whether you’re looking to maximise solar generation, store excess electricity, benefit from cheaper overnight tariffs or enjoy backup power during outages, we design each system to deliver the best balance of performance, efficiency and long-term savings.
Our approach is simple: we recommend the right solar and battery technology for your home, ensuring every component works together to reduce your electricity bills and maximise your investment.

What does a solar and battery system cost?
There isn’t one standard price because system size, battery capacity, access and installation requirements vary from home to home.
These examples give you a realistic idea of the investment involved in some typical Phase Energy solar and battery systems.

What happens next?
It starts with a free home survey. We’ll look at the property, discuss what you want the system to achieve and gather the information needed to design it properly.
You’ll then receive a proposal showing the recommended system and what it is expected to deliver. You can ask questions and make changes before deciding whether to proceed.

Why People choose Phase Energy

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Solar panels can be installed without battery storage. Whether adding a battery makes sense depends on how much electricity you use, when you use it and what you want your system to achieve. We can show you the options as part of your proposal.
Yes, many modern battery systems can also charge from the grid. This can be useful with tariffs offering cheaper electricity at certain times, allowing stored electricity to be used later when grid electricity may be more expensive.
Once the battery reaches its permitted capacity, any additional solar electricity that your home cannot use will normally be exported to the grid.
Not automatically. Backup capability depends on the battery, inverter and the way the system has been designed and installed. If backup is important to you, tell us at the design stage so that we can recommend an appropriate system.
We look at factors including your electricity consumption, when you use energy, the size of your proposed solar array and what you want the battery to achieve. The aim is to specify useful storage capacity rather than simply recommending the largest battery available.
Often, yes, although this depends on the equipment installed and how the original system has been designed. If you think your electricity use may increase in future, let us know so that expansion can be considered from the outset.
