Solar & Tesla Powerwall Installation in Canterbury, Kent

  • The result

A solar and Tesla Powerwall 3 system designed to reduce the homeowner’s reliance on grid electricity and provide whole-home backup.

The system is estimated to generate 5,928 kWh a year, with approximately 80% of the household’s electricity consumption expected to be covered by the installation.

    The customer’s objective

The homeowner wanted to reduce electricity bills and become less dependent on grid power, while also future-proofing the property.

Working with a local installer was also important. The customer already had a connection with someone working at Phase Energy, which helped give them confidence in choosing a local company for the project.

Whole-home backup was another important requirement, allowing the property to retain power during a grid outage subject to the available battery charge and household demand at the time.

    The Phase Energy solution

We designed a solar and battery system using 12 AIKO Neostar 465W panels, paired with a Tesla Powerwall 3.

The solar array was installed on the available south-facing roof area, with the layout designed to make maximum practical use of the available space.

A Tesla Gateway was also installed to provide whole-property backup capability.

Why the system was designed this way

The number of panels was determined by the available south-facing roof space, with the objective of maximising generation from the strongest roof aspect.

Battery capacity was selected around the household’s electricity consumption and available budget.

The homeowner considered both Fox ESS and Tesla options before deciding on Tesla as their preferred system.

The combination of solar generation, battery storage and backup capability was intended to reduce grid dependence now while also providing a more resilient and future-ready home energy system.

    Installation

The installation was completed in one day.

No significant access, roof, shading or electrical challenges were recorded on this project, allowing the installation to be completed straightforwardly.

    Predicted energy and financial performance

    Estimated annual generation
    5,928 kWh

    Existing annual electricity use
    Approx. 3,900 kWh

Estimated electricity demand covered by the system
    Approx. 80%

Estimated solar generation used in the home
    Approx. 50%

    Estimated year-one financial benefit

The remaining solar generation is expected to be exported to the grid.

These figures are proposal-stage estimates and actual performance will vary according to weather conditions, electricity consumption, tariffs and how the battery is operated.

    Whole-home backup

The Tesla Gateway provides whole-property backup capability during a grid outage.

Actual backup duration will depend on the Powerwall’s state of charge and the amount of electricity being used in the property at the time.
